Monmouth Walkers Contribute to National Banner

January 2015

Monmouth has been a ‘Walkers are Welcome’ town for over two years and the group has produced walking leaflets and organises monthly guided walks.  The national ‘get-together’ was held in Chepstow in October last year and towns were invited to send an embroidered square to be included in a banner, which would then be displayed at each get-together.

Monmouth is fortunate to have local resident Eira Steggles who is a keen walker and embroiderer she has designed and produced an attractive square of Monmouth showing the Monnow Bridge, Monnow Street and St Mary's Church.

Brian Ramsey, Chair of Monmouth Walkers Are Welcome, said: ‘Eira and her husband Harry were founder members of our group and have contributed an enormous amount of their time to ensuring our success, writing and illustrating 5 of our walk leaflets. This beautiful embroidery square will represent the town and our group at each annual get-together for Walkers Are Welcome towns. We are extremely grateful to have their experience and support.’
